College Scholarship Applications Due
Salem students who will be attending a Lutheran-affiliated college this upcoming school year may submit an application for a scholarship to the Trust Fund by August 15, 2010. This scholarship is administered by the Trust Fund, but is made available by an endowment fund established by the former WELCA organization.
Students should submit a letter of request to the Trust Fund that includes the name of the college they will be attending, the class level they will be at in the fall, and a brief statement as to how this scholarship will help them. It is anticipated the Trust Fund will review requests and then distribute scholarships proportionately based on the monies that are available for distribution. Students should expect announcement of scholarships prior to September 1, 2010.

Share your soles

Salem's High School youth are asking everyone to give up a pair of shoes for Lent.
Since Share Your Soles is in desperate need of donations right now we are setting a goal of
1000 pairs of shoes from our congregation. This would be nearly 1 pair from every member. Any type of shoes or boots, toddler through adult will be washed and sent out to countries with the greatest need. Boxes for donations will be located in the Welcome Center. The students will deliver the shoes and spend the day volunteering at Share Your Soles after Easter.
Share Your Soles www.shareyoursoles.org is a non-profit organization located in Alsip. Their mission is simple: To provide gently worn shoes to those in greatest need around the world. The shoes they give to the needy may be the only pair ever received in their lives. In January they donated 40 cases of shoes to Haiti, and 4000 more pairs are on there way.
Collection dates at Salem through Easter Sunday, April 4.
